Stunning 19m2 to 20m2 Belgian ceramic art nouveau floor

One of four floors, bearing all the DNA of art nouveau design, recovered from the same house in Namur, Belgium we present this now fully restored ceramic floor with a surface area totalling 19m2 to 20m2 / 206 sq. ft. to 217 sq ft. We have rarely come across a floor of such detail; a principal 14cm sq. tile, each four tile motif framed by a half size tile complete with adjoining 7cm x 7cm cabochons, exquisitely framed by a border that comprises of a same size holly themed tile, itself top and tailed by a half sized border tile. All 4 large border corners and 8 small border corners are present.

The floor was manufactured by Societe Anonyme AMAY (Belgique) in the early part of the twentieth century and we include in the photo gallery a scan from their original catalogue, showing the half size internal frame tile.

Old mortar to the reverse and sides removed and years of old wax and dirt from the faces cleaned, the floor arrives ready to relay. And this quality ceramic has cleaned beautifully as the high resolution photographs of a random section of around 1.25 m2 shows; pastel colours are consistent and the ceramic, 15mm thick, is excellent. A small number of tiles display edge nibbles and small groutable chips but the patina is lovely...we will let the high resolution photographs speak for themselves.

Being a highly fired tile the floor can be laid outside or inside of the home, where it will work efficiently with underfloor heating systems.

FIELD (14cm sq) - 485 tiles - 9.5 m2

INTERNAL FRAME - (14cm x 7cm)  - 535 tiles plus 145 cabochons - c.5.9 m2

LARGE BORDER * - (14cm sq) - 100 tiles plus 4 corners - 2 m2

SMALL BORDER -  (14cm x 7cm) - 175 tiles plus 4 corners - 1.74 m2

* There are an additional 50 large border tiles available, should they be required. This would increase the size of the floor from the current 19m2+ to 20m2+
