A small handmade Sand & Cie French ceramic floor

A small, beautiful, quality antique French ceramic encaustic floor with its original lattice and domino themed border tiles reclaimed from the hallway of a town house in Picardy, Northern France and totalling 5.25m2+. The floor was produced by Sand & Cie, in the latter part of the 19th century and a photograph below shows it before its lifting and professional cleaning at The Antique Floor Company.

These tiles are a quality ceramic, 15cm square and over 1.5cm thick and being handmade in small batches there is evidence of subtle tonal differences in slip colouring. The tiles have cleaned beautifully of their old lime based mortar to the backs and years of wax and dirt. As the high resolution photographs show the colours are crisp and clean, complimenting some stunning detail.

The floor can be laid inside or outside of the home and can be used with under-floor heating systems.

There are around 1m2 of reject tiles, having larger chips and defaults, which are supplied free for use as offcuts (or can be intergrated into the floor if a richer antique patina is desired).
