A small 8.5m2 French floral themed antique ceramic floor
A small, 8.5m2 / 91 sq ft, antique French ceramic floor, dating from the early twentieth century, consisting of a main 14cm square field tile and a same size border tile, for which there are a large number available.
The design is pretty, centered on a strong floral theme of leaves and a styalised cornflower. The same size border tile retains the theme and there are an endless number of border tile corners available as these are in fact the main field tiles. The photographs below are of a random section of around 0.75m2 of the floor.
Being handmade in small batches in the early part of the twentieth century, there are some tonal variations in the tiles slip colours and we have shown a couple of tiles together to show more pronounced examples of this. We feel this adds to the charm and uniqueness of the floor, manufactured long before computer controlled slip mixing processes. The floor has cleaned very well, revealing a good ceramic; groutable edge nibbles and small chips are evident on a small number of tiles and as can be seen the floor has a rich antique patina.
Being a highly fired tile they can be laid inside or outside of the home and as excellent distributors of heat will work very effectively with underfloor heating systems.
