Small, 1m2, Douzies Maubege French ceramic encaustic floor c.1920-1930
A small, 1m2, antique French ceramic encaustic tile of 15cm sq dated c.1920-30 and manufactured by La Gare de Douzies Maubege. The tiles were reclaimed as the skirting plinths of a bathroom in a town house in Bethune, northern France. The palette is cool in greys, mid blue and off white with charcoal detail piping.
The tiles have cleaned well of their old mortar and wax and arrive ready to relay in a small entrance porch area, in a toilet, in front of a bath or as a carpet style room feature framed by wood, stone or a complimentary tile. Or if not on the floor then on a wall in a kitchen inglenook or Aga area, or as a sink or shower splashback.
Being ceramic encaustic and highly fired, they can be used very efficiently with underfloor heating systems and can be laid both inside and outside of the home regardless of high summer and sub zero winter temperatures.
