Small, 1.65m2, Simons et Cie French ceramic, early 20th century

A small, 1.65m2 / 18 sq ft French antique ceramic consisting of a 14.2cm sq acorn themed field tile and same size borders. We have shown in the gallery the border laid in the two options available.

The tiles were handmade by Manufacture de Carrelages Ceramiques Simons et Cie, Le Cateau (Nord), a company established in 1863, and we include scans from their original catalogue showing both the field tile and border tile.

The patina is pleasing, slip colour is sharp, the 15mm thick ceramic is in excellent condition and only a handful of tiles display groutable edge nibbles or small chips.

Ideal for a small porch, toilet or as kitchen or bath splashback, a decorative feature in a shower or, being resistant to high temperatures, ideal for a chimney or range inglenook..
