A regal antique Belgian carreaux de ciment floor, early 20th century
A small but stunning c.6.5m2, antique Belgian carreaux de ciments floor reclaimed from a period property in Namur, Belgium dating from the early part of the 20th century. These 20cm sq tiles, bearing alternating regal cross and raised star motif's, are in a palette of burned red and orange, black and off-white. The floor has a very rich and pleasing antique patina; some tiles display chips and nibbles, some surface crackling but they are over 2cm thick, weighing close to 2 kilos each and good for another 100 years. The floor has been thoroughly cleaned and arrives ready to relay. It is now in its matt state and being a carreaux de ciments tile and cured rather than fired, they will need to be sealed once relaid and we will supply the sealant free. The floor should only be laid inside the home as a climate where freezing and thawing is a possibility in winter will damage the tiles in the same way it does terracotta.
