Rare - 19m2 - Antique ceramic Boch Freres floral themed floor with original borders
Totalling c.19m2 / 205 sq ft this antique ceramic encaustic floor with its original twin border tiles, one full size and one half size, has been reclaimed from the drawing room of a magnificent Maison Maitre in the Paris suburb of Orsay, built in 1880 and currently undergoing renovation.
The design and detail in the design is quite exquisite with the two main field tiles, both floral themed, one white and one blue, interweaving to reveal a stunning four tile tessellation. The floral theme is continued on the main same size border tile which sits on a burgundy fond. Large, at 17cm sq and almost 2cm thick their handmade production gives each tile an individuality; this is a top of the range period tile manufactured by a heritage producer still globally recognised. We have included within the high resolution photographs below an optional way of laying the field tiles with all the white flowers and blue flowers together in fours. More photographs for this option are available on request.
The floor has cleaned superbly of its old mortar to the reverses and sides of the tiles and the slip colours are as consistent and crisp as when they left the kiln. Being a highly fired tile the floor can be laid inside or outside of the home and of course will work efficiently as a superb distributor of heat with underfloor heating systems.
Computers can only communicate so much and we provide a samples service to give the opportunity to see the beauty of these antique tiles at first hand. Enquire for more details.
