A pretty 9.25m2 / 100 sq ft antique carreaux de ciment floor c.1900

A small and pretty antique French carreaux de ciments floor, dating from the early part of the 20th century, reclaimed from a house in Euzet les Bains, Languedoc-Roussillon, a village of only some 370 or so inhabitants famous for its thermal spa's (Docteur Perrier, who later discovered the source for his internationally well known sparkling water in the region, was once a director of one of the village's spa's.).

The tiles are 17cm square and the design both pretty and delicate in an autumnal palette. The floor has an appealing patina, as the photographs show, and has cleaned well. Arriving ready to lay, once relaid the tiles will require sealing to protect them against staining and being a cured rather than a fired tile, like a ceramic, the floor can only be laid inside the home as a climate with sub zero temperatures will cause the tile to degenerate over the years.

The total surface area is 9.25m2 / 100 sq ft, although a further 1m2 /c.35 reject tiles (tiles with chips) are supplied free, so the surface area if used as halves or laid into the floor is greater.
