Large Belgian antique ceramic encaustic Ste Ghislaine floor
A large, 34.5m2+ / 375 sq ft+ Belgian ceramic encaustic floor manufacterd by Ste. Ghislaine in the early part of the twentieth century. The floor has been reclaimed from two rooms of a town house close to Namur in Belgium.
The detail in the strongly vegetal themed design is complex and ornate but the palette is soft in mid greys, offwhite and blue with the main 14cm square field tile framed by its original art nouveau themed triple laid border tiles; one same size and two half size. Having been professionally cleaned of old mortar and wax the tiles now reveal consistent colours on a good deep slip and the floor is in excellent condition with all four large border corner tiles and eight small border tile corners present. Being ceramic encaustic it can be laid both inside and outside of the home, for example on a patio or garden path, where high summer and sub zero winter temperatures will have no effect on the robustness of the tile. Additionally, it can be laid with underfloor heating systems as the tiles are excellent conductors and retainers of heat.

Main field tiles - 1,445 - 28.3m2
