Douzies Maubeuge ceramic encaustic floor in Autumnal colours
20m2+ / 215 sq ft+ of reclaimed antique Douzies Maubege ceramic encaustic tiles bearing an ornate detailed motif and a repeating cross design.
These French tiles, dated c.1920, are of an autumnal palette, subtle but warm on an offwhite background. The same size border tiles feature trailing ivy on a dark burgundy background with mustard piping and are framed top and bottom by a half size lattice border tile taking from the same palette (photos to follow).
This is a good quality ceramic tile, 1.5cm thick, which has cleaned beautifully. The floor has had all old mortar removed and years of wax cleaned from the tiles faces and arrives ready to relay. Being a highly fired ceramic enscaustic tile the floor can be laid inside or outside of the home. The floor does not require sealing or waxing once laid and a regular washing is the only required maintenance necessary for the floor to retain the quality and beauty shown in the high resolution photographs below.
Both the principal field tile and the large border tiles are 15cm square / < 6 inches sq with half size border tiles of 7.5cm x 3.75cm.
A scan of the turn of the century Douzies Maubeuge catalogue showing the floor can be seen below.
