Classical carreaux de ciments floor in cherry, grey and white - French c.1900

A classical & geometrically simple antique French floor dating from the beginning of the last century and totalling 11.25m2+ / 120 sq ft. The tiles are marked TACUSELL & Co. COURTHEZON and originate from the Vaucluse in Provence although they have been recovered from a Town House close to Rheims in the Champagne area of France. Both the field tile and border tile are 20cm sq. The design is simple and centered on a cherry coloured star with grey floral tile linking. The tile fond is white. The border tiles, of which there are 4.2 linear metres (13.75 linear feet), are of the same palette but ornate in design to compliment the simplicity of the field tile.

The floor is cleaned of its old lime based mortar and the faces have been alkaline washed and steam cleaned. The floor arrives ready to re-lay.

Being in their matt state the tiles will require either sealing or waxing once relaid, depending on the desired finish of choice. This antique floor is beautifully time worn and the high resolution photographs below are an accurate representation of a rich patina on the surface. It is in good condition with the occasional chips and nibbles apparent to be expected of a floor well over 100 years of age.
