c.8.25m2 / 89 sq ft of French Terrazzo tiles - 1955
c.8.25m2 / 89 sq ft of Terrazzo tiles reclaimed from a Cafe in Paray le Monial, France.
The tiles were laid in 1955 and are 20cm square (7.9 inches), 2cm (0.8 inch) thick and weigh 2kgs (71 ounces) each.
The floor displays a charming antique patina commensurate with its age, there are chips and defaults on some tiles, all groutable. The photos displayed in the gallery of a random section of the floor are a representative sample of the whole floor.
A hard wearing tile that can only be laid indoors, unless you live in a area where there is no risk of freezing and thawing, terrazzo is a composite material of marble & chippings set into cement and polished flat. Originating in 16th century Italy they were created to re-use stone and marble chippings.
