c.5.4m2 ornate motif ceramic encaustic floor c.1920
A small, c.5.4m2, ornate ceramic encaustic floor of 15cm square tiles centered on a four-tile repeating circular motif. The palette is burgundy, black and white.
Both the back to back border tiles and the main field tiles are stamped B&W for Boucquey et Winckelmans and were made close to Lille, France in the 1920's. The ceramic is good; occassional small chips and nibbles and surface crackling on a very small number of tiles give the floor a pleasing patina and the floor has cleaned excellently of old mortar and wax.
Being ceramic encaustic they can be laid both inside or outside the home.
