c.30m2+ / 325 sq ft handmade French floor c.1900 – Stunning detail
A magnificently detailed antique French floor, complete with its original triple border tile series, manufactured by Carrelages ceramiques Sand & Cie, Feignies in the early part of the 20th century.
Along with the high resolution photographs of a large laid out section below we have also included a scan from the original Sand and Cie catalogue showing the floor.
The ceramic of these tiles is superb, the slip deep and the colours crisp. The complex design is exquisite with the tessellation of the two main interlocked field tiles producing rich contrasting but harmonising motifs within which some of the detail creates the impression of air brush quality. The floor is framed by two same size borders. Both offer stunning design and detail. Please note that the half size border in the photographs is no longer available.
The ceramic is in excellent condition, lime based mortar has been removed from the reverse and sides of the tiles and old wax and dirt from their faces. Being ceramic encaustic the tiles can be laid inside or outside of the house; in the garden, on a patio, conservatory or entrance path. They are excellent conductors and retainers of heat, so well suited to work with under-floor heating systems.
We will be happy to assist in evaluating the fit of the floor for your chosen area.
In the latter stages of restoration, enquire for tile quantities by tile type.
Possibility to split the floor with a minimum 15m2 purchase requirement.
