Antique French carreaux de ciments floor with matching border c.1900
12m2 of antique French carreaux de ciments floor tiles recovered from a village house close to Montpellier in Languedoc, Southern France.
The tiles are 20cm sq (7 3/4 inches) and 2cm thick in burgundy and light grey and tessellate in a group of four tiles to produce a beautifully elegant motif detailed with off-white scrolling. There is a same size border tile featuring a burgundy band on the same light grey fond.
The tiles are in good condition with some tiles displaying occassional chips and nibbles expected of a floor of this age. The faces have cleaned well without diminishing the antique patina which is still obvious in the photographs below.
Once laid the floor will require sealing and/or waxing and being carreaux de ciments they can only be used internally unless you live in a climate where there is no risk of sub-zero temperatures.
There are c.250 field tiles and c.47 border tiles plus a large number of offcuts supplied free.
