Antique carreaux de ciments tiles - classical French design c.1900
A classically French and geometrically pure antique carreaux de ciments floor c.1900, totalling c.5m2 / 55 sq ft. The tiles are 20cm sq / 8 inches sq and c.2cm thick and the palette is cool in shades of grey, cream, charcoal and mustard.
The floor, reclaimed from a maison maitre in the suburbs of Toulouse, south west France has been professionally cleaned of its old lime based mortar and years of old wax. Once relaid the floor with require sealing (product can be supplied). Optionally, the tiles can also be waxed to add lustre and sheen, depending on the finish required. Being carreaux de ciments, a tile cured rather than fired, they are only suitable for indoor use unless you live in a climate where freezing and thawing is not an issue.
The floor is in very good condition with a pleasing patina. A small number of tiles display nibbles and small chips expected of a floor of this age but the high resolution photographs here are an accurate representation of the floor as a whole.
