Antique Belgian full and half size border tiles - pre 1912
A small run of antique Belgian ceramic encaustic border tiles perfectly suited to a lay in a chimney hearth, along a kitchen counter wall, as a splashback behind a sink or bath or as a decorative feature in a larger context.
The border run comprises of a full size 16cm sq tile top and tailed by a 16cm x 8cm ceramic border.
The tiles were manufactured by Carrelages Céramiques de Chimay, Maufroid Freres et Soeur, Rue Poncet, Bourlers, Henegouwen, Belgium, who later became: S.A. La Céramique de Bourlers. Maufroid Freres et Soeur traded as such between 1879 and 1912 and the tiles display on their reverse the Maufroid rings and centralised 'M'.
Strong vegetal theme on the principal large border complimented by a geometric half size tile. Being handmade in small batches there is some tonal variation in the tile slip colours, as the photographs show.
12 full size and 24 half size borders available providing a linear length of 192cm or 76 inches.
