9.5m2+ antique French carreaux de ciments in black and red - early 20th century

c.9.5m2 of antique French carreaux de ciments floor tiles complete with their original same size border tiles. The 20cm sq tiles have been relcaimed from the kitchen area of a Fermette close to Epinac in Burgundy, France and date from the early part of the twentieth century. The linked rosace design is strongly geometrical and the palette is cool in charcoal, black, greys and off-white, warmed by a red motif.

The floor has cleaned well of its old mortar, dirt and wax and is now in its matt state, requiring that it be sealed once laid to protect against staining. Optionally, if a satin finished is desired it can be wax polished. The tile sealant is a clear paint on fluid, supplied by us, and is quick and easy to apply in two coats once the floor has been laid and the joints are dry. The floor has a lovely aged patina with some tiles displaying chips and nibbles and on a few tiles there is some surface crackling. The high resolution photographs below are an accurate representation of the larger floor area. Being a cured rather than a fired tile the floor is only suitable for laying internally as the risk of sub zero freezing and thawing outside would eventually result in damage to the tile.
