An 8.2m2+ antique ceramic floor with double and single borders
Strongly geometric and easy on the eye, the floor comprises of a star linked main field tile framed by a same size border and a half size border which can be laid in duplicate, top and tailing the larger border.
The floor is French and was manufactured by Ste. Generale. de Carrelages et de Produits Ceramiques (SGC) in the early part of the twentieth century and we include in the photo gallery a scan from their original catalogue showing the tiles.
In a cool palette of greys, blue and charcoal piping both the main field tile and same size border are 15.5cm square and +/- 1.5cm thick. The small borders are 15.5cm x 7.75cm.
The floor surface totals 8.2m2 / 88.2 sq ft.
There are three border corner tiles for the larger border series and none for the small border series, so a mitre cutting of the borders when laying with be required.
Each tile has been professionally cleaned and quality controlled so that the floor arrives ready to relay; the ceramic is excellent and the slip deep. As would be expected of a floor manufactured in the early part of the twentieth century a small number of tiles display an occasional small chip or groutable edge nibbling but they are all robust, of excellent quality and weigh close to 1kg each. Being an encaustic tile the floor can be laid inside or outside of the home and will work very efficiently with underfloor heating systems.
