7.25m2 antique ceramic octagon tile with burgundy inserts c.1910

A pretty and classical French antique ceramic octagon tiled floor manufactured by Perusson c.1910, recovered from a kitchen of a village house in Saone et Loire, Burgundy. The barley coloured 17cm wide tiles come complete with their original dark red cabochons, which are 7cm sq. A ceramic plain border tile in dark taupe framed the room, the tile having the marking St Just de Beauvais, Beauvais being a major centre for ceramic tile production at the turn of the twentieth century. Both tiles are 1.2cm thick, with the cabochons being 1.5cm thick.

The floor has cleaned well revealing a pleasing patina, some tiles displaying small chips and nibbles and there are subtle variations in colour as can be seen in the high resolution photographs. A large number of offcuts are supplied free. Being ceramic and highly fired the tiles can be laid inside or outside of the home.
