5m2 antique French thistle themed ceramic
A small, 5m2, thistle themed antique French ceramic floor with its original borders.
15cm square tiles, back stamped Ceramiques Landrecies.
The tiles were manufactured by Société Française des Céramiques de Landrecies (Nord) pre-1925. The Landrecies usine was established in the late 19th century and flourished between 1905-1939. They were absorbed into the Maufroid Freres et Soeur company in 1925. We have included a photograph below of the Landrecies usine.
The tiles have cleaned well of their old lime based mortar and years of dirt and wax. The patina is rich, with edge nibbles and small groutable chips evident on some tiles, as can be seen from the high resolution photographs.
This one of two small floors reclaimed from the same house of the same design of field tile and slight variation to the border. Curiously the floors tiles are of different sizes; this floor being 15cm sq tiles and the other, 14.3cm sq tiles and stamped MCM, a different French tile producer.
