31m2 antique French Damier ceramic tiles - wheat and black
31m2 of antique French ceramic damier tiles in black and wheat, reclaimed from a restaurant renovation in Varennes-Sur-Seine in the Seine et Marne department of France. The 14cm square, 13mm thick tiles were produced by Carrelages, Pavages Ceramiques Ste Maxence (Oise).
Ste. Maxence are one of the oldest tile manufacturers in France having been established in 1882. Very little of their history has been recorded and it appears they were either absorbed into another group or went out of business in the 1920's, so the tiles date from between 1882 and 1930.
Having been cleaned of their old mortar and wax they offer up a pretty antique patina with some tiles displaying small groutable chips and edge nibbles.
Owing to the large surface area available there may be the opportunity to sell in smaller quantities based on your requirements.
Being a highly fired tile they can be laid inside or outside of the home and will work very efficiently with underfloor heating systems.
