2m2 Douzies Maubege ceramic encaustic floor

A small, 2m2, ceramic encaustic floor produced by La Gare de Douzies, Maubege in the early part of the twentieth century. The 15cm square tiles are fern themed, producing an ornate autumnal centralised motif on a fond of primrose blue. The 1.25cm tiles are an excellent ceramic, which have cleaned beautifully as the high resolution photographs below show. Some display small chips and nibbles expected of a floor of this age but this is a tile that would add charm and character to a small bathroom, toilet, entrance porch or patio or as a decorative floor feature in a larger room, framed by an antique wood or complimentary tile. 

Being highly fired, the tiles are excellent conductors and retainers of heat and can be used with underfloor heating systems.
