21.5m2 / 230 sq ft ceramic encaustic floor c.1879-1912

An antique ceramic encaustic floor totalling c.21.5m2 / 230 sq ft with its strongly geometric same size borders laid in duplicate. The floor is in a palette of sky blue, off-white and mid grey with charcoal and amber also present in the motif detail and banding. Ornate in design but symetrical and easy on the eye it has been reclaimed from the dining room of a period property in Recquignies, Picardy, France along with two other floors,

Ceramic encaustic and produced by Carrelages céramiques de Chimay, Maufroid fréres & soeur, Rue Poncet, Bourlers (Henegouwen) Belgium who later became S.A. La Céramique de Bourlers the tiles are 16 cm sq.

The floor arrives ready to relay having cleaned well of old wax and mortar, revealing vibrant colours and a good slip. A small number of tiles display small groutable chips and edge nibbles but they have been individually quality controlled and are of excellent quality. There are only three corner pieces that we have managed to reclaim so it will be necessary for the tiler to mitre cut the missing pieces from the regular border tiles.

Being ceramic encaustic they can be laid inside or outside of the home and of course can be used very efficiently with underfloor heating systems.

Total tiles, give or take one or two:-

Field tiles - 715 - 18.3m2

Border tiles - 125 - 3.28m2 or 20.48 linear metres / 67 linear ft*

Plus 2 external corner pieces and 2 internal corner pieces

* Based on a single border tile lay. Halve the linear length for a double tile lay.
