17.5m2 - Paray Le Monial Cerabati ceramic tiles
17.5m2 of antique ceramic floor tiles, marked ‘CGCB PARAY LE MONIAL’, the inscription for the Compagnie Générale de la Céramique du Batiment (commonly shortened to Cerabati), a period ceramic tile producer which were an amalgamation of some of the older companies in Paray-le-Monial, Bourgogne and other usines around France.
These ceramic tiles have a good deep encaustic slip and likely date c.1920 although they could be earlier. The floor design tessellates around a centralised, repeating abstract colline in primarily an olive green, with a posy of flowers in vieux rose anchored on a cream background.
The tessellation is as striking as it is unique.
There are 17.5m2 of the 14.7cm sq tiles in good condition and a large number of tiles supplied free which can be used as offcuts and for keying to walls. The floor has been painstakingly cleaned of old lime mortar and wax but may benefit from a polish once laid.
