1.75m2 antique ceramic encaustic tiles c.1920-1930
An antique ceramic encaustic tile, totaling c.1.75 m2
A strongly geometrically themed field tile of an aubergine band on a mid grey fond, linked by an off-white cross and sky blue motif.
Reclaimed from the kitchen of a period property in Recquignies, Picardy, France along with two other floors, this is a classical tessellation, unfussy on the eye.
The floor was manufactured by Boucquey et Winckelmans c.1920-30 with the tiles bearing the reverse stamp B&W.
The tiles are 15 cm sq / c. 6 inches.
The floor has cleaned very well of old wax and mortar and arrives ready to relay. A small number of tiles display small groutable chips and edge nibbles but they have been individually quality controlled are of excellent quality. Being ceramic encaustic they can be laid inside or outside of the home and of course can be used very efficiently with underfloor heating systems.
A small floor perfect for a porch, small entrance hallway, toilet, carpet style feature, inside a shower, as a splashback..
