16m2 triple border antique Belgian ceramic floor
An antique Belgian ceramic encaustic floor, dating from the early part of the 20th century, reclaimed from its original home in Gembloux, Belgium and now fully restored and arriving ready to relay.
The floor surface is c.16m2 with individual tile counts, by tile type, available on request. The principal field tile and same size border are 14cm sq and the half size border, laid in duplicate, is 14cm x 7cm.
The floor design, of an alternating cross and vegetal themed motif, is an impressive statement but the floor is easy on the eye in a cool palette of sky blue, mid grey, sage green with mustard and burgundy piping. The same burgundy detail is present in the border series which comprise of a same size border and its original half size borders, which are laid in duplicate. As the high resolution photographs show of a random section of the floor the border series frames the floor beautifully both stylistically and in the subtly and harmony of its palette.
The floor has cleaned well and the 15mm thick ceramic is excellent; a small number of tiles bear edge nibbles or groutable chips, as a random section of the floor below details. Being ceramic and highly fired it can be laid inside or outside of the home and being an excellent distributor heat will work well with underfloor heating systems.
Should you need any assistance with evaluating if the floor fits, or its best layout for your room, we are happy to help without any obligation on your behalf.
