15.5m2 French mosaic themed ceramic floor c.1930
One of two mosaic themed floors we have just lifted from a renovation in Arneke, Nord Pas de Calais, France and now fully restored and ready to relay. The floor, ceramic encaustic and dating from the 1930's, consists of a main 14.2cm sq field tile framed by a triple border tile series of a same size full border flanked by a half size border, laid in duplicate. The floor was manufactured by Landrecies (Nord) Manufactureres de Mosaique Ceramique de Maugeuge. A scan of their catalogue showing the floor is below.
The floor totals 15.5m2 / 167 sq ft.
The palette of the main field tile is warm; a dark red and mustard are present as is detailing in cornflower blue, white and grey and the borders introduce a sage green into the common mosaic theme. There are two border corner tiles for the large borders although the missing two can be mitre cut from the regular borders, such is the designs symmetry. All four border corners for the half border series are present and correct.
Being a highly fired tile they can be laid inside or outside of the home and they will work very efficiently, as excellent retainers and distributors of heat, with underfloor heating systems.
