12m2 / 129 sq ft of antique French carreaux de ciments tiles in olive, cream and tangerine
12m2 / 129 sq ft of antique French carreaux de ciments floor tiles dated c.1900, recovered from a town house in the Rheims, Champagne area of France, although the tiles were originally produced in the South of France, being marked ‘TACUSSEL & Co. COURTHEZON’, a producer in the Provencal department of Vaucluse.
The 20cm sq / +/- 8 inches, 2cm thick tiles are on a fond of white, with an olive coloured flower framed by ornate tangerine scrolling. The tiles have been cleaned back and sides and following an alkaline wash and steam cleaning are ready to re-lay.
The patina is rich and time worn, there are the occasional chips and nibbles expected of a floor of this age but the high resolution photographs of a sample of the floor are representative of the floor as a whole.
The floor will need sealing or waxing, depending on the desired finish, once laid.
