10m2+ charcoal grey antique ceramic floor c.1920 - SOLD
Reclaimed from a town house hallway in Lille, northern France, a 10m2 / 105 sq ft antique ceramic floor, dated c.1920, complete with same size double border tiles, laid back to back. The tiles are ceramic encaustic and unmarked on their reverse.
The tiles are 14cm sq and the palette is grey with charcoal, cornflower blue and white present. Two floral themed circles tessellate to produce a beautifully ornate floor linked by a smaller blue motif.
The high resolution photographs below show a representative section of the floor, which has cleaned very well and the ceramic is of good quality. As can be seen, a small number of tiles display small groutable chips and nibbles, adding to the antique patina of the floor.
Give or take one or two tiles there are 350 field tiles, 150 borders (21 linear metres for a single lay and 10.5 linear meters for a double lay) plus 4 internal and 3 external corner pieces.
