A country kitchen in Epinal, France

The floor is an early 20th century French carreaux de ciments tile, 20cm sq, which produces clean geometric lines and a star centred motif but is complimented by an ornate Art Nouveau border tile. Rather than taking the traditional and conventional route of using the border tile to frame the floor, the border has been superbly used to lead the eye to sections of the floor to accentuate features, in this case the antique wood burning cooker.
