Geometric Belgian ceramic floor with triple borders
A classical antique ceramic Belgian floor complete with its original same size and half size border tiles.
The palette is excellent for distributing light; aqua greens and blues on off-white are complemented by light grey and burgundy. The large borders, taking from the same palette, are lush with their twin styalized flowers and these are framed by a simple link motif small border tile in mid grey, mid blue and white.
The tiles are 14cm square and +/- 13mm thick, with the half size borders 14cm x 7cm.
Being ceramic encaustic and highly fired the tiles are excellent conductors and retainers of heat and can be used very efficiently with underfloor heating systems. Once laid they do not require sealing and only a regular wash to maintain their beauty.
Available by the m2 / sq ft.
Minimum order quantity is 5m2 / 55 sq ft unless part of a larger order.

Antique tiles were most commonly made in single or two tile moulds. Before current computer automation methods their moulds were made my hand and the colour slips mixed by eye. Kiln temperatures could also be variable, as could the firing time. The result is that often tiles display subtle size and thickness variations and there can be tonal variations in colours, owing to the slip mixing and/or firing time. All of this makes these handmade tiles unique and adds to their charm. Some floors display their subtle variations in size and tones, some not, but when photographing we always take a random section of the floor so that it is representative of the whole. A tiler should always dry lay a section of the tiles to familiarise himself with them before starting to fix lay.
