13.4m2 antique Boch Freres ceramic floor - late 19th century

A superb heritage ceramic floor with its original triple border tiles, this is a quality tile produced by the internationally accredited ceramic house of Boch Freres, Maubeuge in the late 19th century. The tiles are individually reverse stamped Boch Freres, Maubeuge.
While French, it has been reclaimed, along with four other floors, from a bourgeois house in southern Belgium.

The principal field tile and same size border are 17cm square, 2cm thick and weigh over 1.7kgs each. This is a quality ceramic with a moulded relief surface and a deep slip. Being handmade there are subtle variations in tones, all adding to the charm and uniqueness of the floor.

A domino themed half size border top and tails a full size border, the palette includes caramel, teal, sea green, bordeaux, mustard, off-white on a design that is lush but classical in its simple tessellation.
We include in the photo gallery a couple of scans from the original Boch Freres catalogue that the tiles appeared in. The catalogue dates from between 1900 and 1908.

The floor has cleaned superbly and the ceramic is in excellent condition with literally only a handful of tiles bearing small chips or edge nibbles. Being a highly fired tile they can be laid inside or outside of the home and will work very efficiently with underfloor heating systems.
