Classical geometry - c.1925-30 French floor with Victorian influences (CD9)
SOLD SOLD SOLD
A 10.5 m2+ / 110 sq ft+ ceramic encaustic floor, dated c.1925-30, originally laid in the kitchen of a house in Lille.
The design of the tile creates the impression of smaller tile inserts, which, along with the colours, were more common in English Victorian styling.
The tiles are 15cm sq and 1.5cm thick and in generally good condition, some displaying the occasional small chip but the high resolution photographs show a representative sample of the floor.
Two border corner tiles are remaining so if the requirement is for the border to frame the floor then it will be necessary to mitre cut the other two pieces. There are 58 large border tiles totalling 8.7 linear metres (28.5 ft) and 410 field tiles.
The geometry of the field tiles accommodates several laying possibilities, three of which are shown in the photographs below. The first three photographs are true representations of the floors colours with those after tinted more of a rose colour owing to the sun setting while photographing.
