17.25m2 / 185 sq ft triple border Boch Freres ceramic encaustic floor c.1910 (CE156)
SOLD SOLD SOLD
A 17.25m2 / 185 sq ft antique French Boch Freres floor, dated c.1910, carefully lifted from the dining room of a period house in Arneke, Nord Pas de Calais. The floor is complete, still having its original triple border tile layout comprising of a same size lozenge themed tile in light grey and charcoal on an off white fond framed by the double lay of a half size geometric border, which takes from the same palette as the principal field tile.
The principal field tiles are 14.7cm square, the large borders 14.2cm sq and the half size borders 7.3cm x 14.6cm.
The sky blue floral and lattice design of the principal tile offers a simplicity that provides a clean, easy on the eye tessellation as it opens out across the floor. The tiles have cleaned very well of years of dirt and wax, revealing crisp colours, and the ceramic itself is in good condition. A very small number of tiles display edge nibbles and small chips but this is a good quality ceramic, as would be expected of a Boch Freres tile. The floor arrives cleaned, ready to relay and only requires a regular washing to maintain its beauty....waxing is an option should you wish to add a satin lustre to the floor but is not required to protect the floor and being a ceramic tile the floor can be used very effectively with underfloor heating systems.
