15m2+ / 160 sq ft of antique ceramic black and cream hexagon tiles c.1915-1920 (CE181)
SOLD SOLD SOLD
15m2 / 160 sq feet of antique black and cream ceramic floor tiles manufactured by Utzschneider-Jaunez et Cie of Jurbise c.1915-1920. These hexagon tiles are 19.5cm to the points, 17cm wide with 11cm sides and are +/- 2cm thick. Reclaimed from the kitchen of a town house close to Namur in Belgium the tiles are in very good condition, some displaying small edge nibblings and groutable chips but they have a pleasing antique patina.
A photograph below shows the floor in its original configuration, pre-lifting by The Antique Floor Company, but of course the tiles can be laid in various ways and the detailed high resolution photographs show one example only. Obviously being hexagons a traditional chessboard or damier style layout is not possible as you cannot alternate the tiles by cream or black owing to the number of sides.
There are 215 black tiles and 275 cream tiles as well as around 1.5m2 of offcuts and halves supplied free for the tiler to use for cutting and keying.
Being a ceramic tile and highly fired the tiles can be laid inside or outside of the home and will work very efficiently with underfloor heating systems. Its rare to find antique hexagon tiles generally but in black and cream especially they lend themselves to a classical and timeless presence in a hallway, kitchen, conservatory or on a garden path or patio.
