Large 23m2 Maufroid Freres et Soeur ceramic floor with borders (CL103104)
Recently lifted from two reception rooms of a period property close to Namur, Belgium and currently being restored by The Antique Floor Company
The tiles bear the reverse inscription rings and stamped 'M' identifying the floor as having been produced by Carrelages Céramiques de Chimay, Maufroid Freres & Soeur, Rue Poncet, Bourlers, Henegouwen, Belgium, who later became: S.A. La Céramique de Bourlers. Maufroid Freres et Soeur traded as such between 1879 and 1912, so the tiles were produced pre-1912.
Both the main field tile and large border tiles are 16cm sq (6 1/4 inches) and tessellate in a classically geometric design of an anchored mid-blue and white jewel motif framed by charcoal and white piping on a mid grey tile background. The same size borders are more ornate in a linked chain design, again offering mid blue, black and greys. Two half sized border tile designs are available.
Available soon - Indicative floor surface area of 23m2 / 248 sq ft
The first two and the last photograph below show the floor pre-lifting, with the two individual small borders and the rest a small cleaned section.
