1925 antique French bouanderie floor (CE33)

1925 antique French bouanderie floor

A small French bouanderie floor (kitchen larder /storage room) dated c.1925 totaling 6.25 m2 and with tiles measuring 14.2 cm sq. There are two principal field tiles both in an octagonal design; an aqua green cross themed tile with burgundy highlights and framing on an off-white background and a mid grey tile with the same complimentary green apparent. The floor has been designed to visually create the impression of being octagonal tiles ‘linked’ with small square inserts, which the French called cabochons, but the tiles are in fact square and the inserts part of the tile design. The original half size lattice themed border tile is present as are the four corner pieces for the borders. There are 80 border tiles, totaling more than 11 linear metres. The tiles are all cleaned of their old mortar and are ready to re-lay and have had old wax and dirt removed from their faces. Being ceramic they are suitable for under-floor heating and can be laid indoors or outdoors.
