Antique carreaux de ciments tiles - classical French design c.1900 (CM26)
SOLD SOLD SOLD A French, antique carreaux de ciments floor c.1900, totalling c.14m2/150 sq ft with its original same size border tiles.
Both the principal tiles and border tiles are 20cm sq / 8 inches sq and c.2cm thick. The colour palette is cool in shades of grey, cream, charcoal and mustard and the design is very period French; classical and geometrically pure.
The floor has been incorrectly photographed with two same size borders when in reality it is only the inner border shown in the photographs which is available.
The tiles have been reclaimed from a maison maitre in the suburbs of Toulouse, south west of France, and have had there old lime based mortar removed from the reverse and sides, as well as their faces cleaned of old wax. They therefore arrive ready to relay and will requie sealing once laid (product can be supplied). They can also be waxed to add lustre and sheen, depending on the finish required. Being carreaux de ciments, a tile cured rather than fired, they are only suitable for indoor use unless you live in a climate where freezing and thawing is not an issue.
The floor is in very good condition with a pleasing patina. A small number of tiles display nibbles and small chips expected of a floor of this age but the high resolution photographs here are an accurate representation of the floor.
