Small antique ceramic Winckelmans floor – early 20th century (CL9)
SOLD SOLD SOLD A 9m2 / 95 sq ft antique ceramic French floor produced in the early part of the 20th century by Winckelmans, one of the few remaining period heritage tile manufacturers still trading in France today. Both the principal field tile and the double laid borders are 14.5cm sq / c.6 inches and 1.5 cm thick.
The floor would be the hero in any room; the design is vegetal and shamelessly indulgent as is the palette, evidenced by the sky blue cross and flower motif separated by stylized ivy leafs. The trailing ivy borders to this floor are particularly beautiful and can be laid either back to back in duplicate, as shown in the photographs, or as single lay to optimise border length. We have only managed to reclaim two border corners from the original floor but the missing ones can be mitre cut given the symmetry of the border tie.
The floor is in good condition, the high resolution photographs below being a random and accurate representation of the whole. We think the floors design and colouring lends itself particularly well to a bathroom but of course it can be laid wherever you choose, inside or outside of the home.
