14.75m2+ Antique French damier floor with a twist (CE152)
SOLD SOLD SOLD A 14.75m2 / 160 sq ft classical French damier with a twist, this antique floor has been reclaimed from the kitchen of a house in Saint Omer, Nord Pas de Calais, northern France and is dated from the 1930's. The floor consists of two 14cm sq ceramic plain tiles, a mid grey and a white, complimented by a rosace field tile and its common border tile. The 14cm sq border is framed top and bottom by a geometric blue and white half border tile. We have laid the floor out square, for ease of photography, but the original lay was one of the centralised damier at angles to the border. This obviously remains an option but will require full tiles to be cut to triangles to key to the border. We have included a photograph below showing the original layout, pre-lifting of the floor.
The tiles were produced by Usine de Montplaisir de Maubeuge, a scan from their turn of the century catalogue is below showing the floor.
The tiles have cleaned very well of their old mortar, wax and dirt and arrive ready to relay. There is no surface wear, aside a small number of tiles bearing groutable chips and nibbles and the pastel colours of the rosace tile and borders are crisp and consistent. There is a small difference in thicknesses of the plain tiles and the border and rosace tiles owing to them being produced by different manufacturers. Being a ceramic encaustic tile they can be laid inside or outside of the home and are perfect for working with underfloor heating systems.
Delivery leadtime to the UK mainland is around 3 weeks, all other destinations we will be happy to provide a quote for transport and the delivery time to your country.
