A 32m2+ / 350 sq ft antique ceramic floor in mid grey, blue and cream.. (CL36)
SOLD SOLD SOLD A large antique ceramic encaustic floor reclaimed from a house in Tourcoing, a small city in the north of France close to Lille and the Belgian border. The floor consists of a 15cm square field tile and a same size border tile. The palette is cool in primrose blue, mid grey with charcoal piping on a white slip. Classical in its tessellation and easy on the eye the design is both simple and pure with the more ornate lozenge themed borders framing the floor beautifully.
The floor has been completely cleaned of its old lime-based mortar and years of wax revealing a quality ceramic 15mm thick and colours that are as crisp and consistent as when they were first fired. There are occasional small groutable chips and nibbles present on a small number of tiles but the condition of the floor is excellent and being a highly fired tile they can be laid inside or outside of the home as they are impervious to high and sub zero temperatures. Inside the home they can be laid with underfloor heating systems as they are excellent retainers of heat.
From a maintenance perspective the tiles do not need sealing or waxing once laid, waxing being an option exclusively for aesthetic reasons, as a regualar wash is all that is needed to retain their beauty and lustre.
Tile quantities, give or take one or two:-
Field tiles - 1,310 tiles - 29.5m2 / 317 sq ft
Border tiles - 120 tiles plus 4 corners - 2.7m2 / 29sq ft or 18.6 linear metres / 61 linear feet
Ratio of Field tiles to Border tiles is 90:10
NOTE:- Given the size of the floor there may be the possibility to sell a smaller section if the ratio of field tiles to border tiles required is maintained.
For example, if you were wanting tiles for an area of 10m2 then we could supply 9m2 of field tiles and 1m2 of borders.
