18m2 antique Belgian ceramic encaustic floor made by Gilliot & Cie. Hemiksem (CE113-154)
SOLD SOLD SOLD A professionally restored 18m2 antique ceramic encaustic floor produced by Gilliot & Cie of Hemiksem, Belgium in the early part of the 20th century. The tiles are reverse marked with the Hemiksem 'H'.
Reclaimed from the reception room of a period house in Pomacle, a small town north of Reims, in the Champagne region of France, the 14cm sq tiles and half size original border are a simple and pure geometrical tessellation of a repeating blue floral and star motif on a charcoal and white lattice. The tile fond is mid grey. Now professionally cleaned, old mortar and years of wax have been removed revealing a good quality ceramic and consistent colours. The floor arrives ready to relay and can be laid either inside or outside as the tiles were highly fired and are resistant to both high and sub-zero temperatures.
They are also perfect for use with underfloor heating systems as ceramic is an excellent conductor and retainer of heat.
