A warm and magnificently detailed Maubeuge period floor

SOLD  SOLD  SOLD

Slowly lifted from its original village home in the Somme, Hauts-de-France and transported to our Burgundy workshop, where it has been slowly and painstakingly restored, this magnificent ceramic totals 14.75m2 / 159 sq ft in surface area and dates from the early twentieth century. The tessellation of the tile across a series of four is linked by an ornate lozenge and a regal cross.

The palette is warm, with burnt red present both in the 15cm sq field tile and the same size border which frames the floor and which can either be laid singularly or back to back as shown in the photographs below. We are delighted to have recovered all four internal and four external border corner tiles.

This is a quality ceramic, a tile 15mm thick, close to a kilo in weight each and one which has cleaned superbly revealing a deep clay slip and consistent colours.

The floor was manufactured by Fabrique de Produits Ceramiques, Maubeuge in the early part of the twentieth century and we include below a scan of the original presentation of the floor in their catalogue, now in our possession.

Being a highly fired tile it can be laid inside or outside of the home and will work superbly with underfloor heating systems.

It arrives ready to relay and is in excellent condition.
